alvitofernandez@gmail.comThis is a direct implementation project of HCNF, in cooperation with the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) of Pune district. It seeks to provide psycho- social care services for children in need of care and support and in conflict with the law.
We believe that juveniles who have been arrested for vagrancy or petty crimes are not criminals but children who have drifted into a way of life through deprivation, neglect, and lack of support from family or community. Such children are themselves often undergoing extreme trauma, as well as deep rooted anxieties and insecurities.
The project aims, through two trained counsellors, to create a space for such children where they can be heard, accepted and guided to reclaim their childhoods and look forward to a better future. A cell has been set up at the CWC Centre in Pune, and so far 91 children have benefitted.
The counsellors also reach out to other NGOs and provide their expert services where needed. Training of teachers, parents and NGO staff on children’s mental welfare issues is also a part of their mandate. The project is supported by Kubler India Pvt Ltd.
