| Support children in ManipurThe state of Manipur has been burning for over three months and we cannot see immediate signs of resolution of conflict. Violence, arson, and assaults on people and killing are continuing. It is estimated that more than 140 people have been killed, 4000 and more houses destroyed/damaged, at least 50,000 people from all affected communities are living in refugee camps. We are also unsure of proper space for dialogue or conciliation. The refugee camps are mostly organized by either community with local support. They might have received some support from the government, but we understand that a lot needs to be done until normalcy. “Children in these camps have been reduced just to eating watery rice with salt. Signs of malnutrition are already unmistakable. No camps have temporary schools.” Most of these camps also lack basic services of sanitation, nutrition or health care. All indications are that the situation will continue at least for the next few months or so. HCNF is already in talks with local NGOs in Manipur for possible collaboration to support children with food, education materials, nutrition, health/psychosocial care, clothes, and other necessary items.
